Our next stops were in the Olympic National Park area near Seattle, WA. We stayed in a small campground in Forks on the eastern side of the park and another in Poulsbo, on the western side. We got to Rialta Beach and hiked in the Hoh Rain Forest (including a Black Bear encounter) and to various waterfalls in the Park. We also took the trip into the Reservation to Cape Flattery, the northwesternmost point in the 48 states.
There were fires burning in the central part of the park, so our trip to see Mt. Olympus didn't work out - smoke obliterated the view. We were lucky that these fires didn't give us more problems (like later in Glacier National Park). We also made it to the waterfront area in Seattle via the Bainbridge Ferry, going up the Space Needle and visiting a couple of museums, plus seeing the first Starbucks.
