After the Oregon coast, we headed inland to the Portland, OR area, which is rich in sights. The Columbia River Gorge has lots of accessible waterfalls, and Mt. Ranier, Mt. Hood, and Mount St. Helens are all in the area. And of course, Portland is an interesting city. We were busy little sightseers! Our campground was right on the Columbia River in the town of Woodland, WA, near Portland, OR. It was cool to watch Ocean going vessels chugging by on the river, so far from the ocean. With a couple of Osprey nests in the area, we did some bird watching also. We especially enjoyed the 3 famous mountains in the area - Mount St. Helens, Mt. Hood, and Mt Rainier. We were lucky with our timing. The wildflowers were out, especially on Mt. Rainier. And the amazing Mount St. Helens with the blown out portion of the Caldera. Mt. Hood is more commercial, with lots of ski areas. Of course, the Columbia River Gorge is especially cool with all the waterfalls. We also did a day trip to Portland, OR, visiting a craft market, the Experimental Rose Garden, and the Japanese Garden Albums :
