Instead of our planned 3 week stay in Moab, we stayed in Bluff, UT for 2 1/2 weeks and on to Moab for a week. Why, you ask? Jeep week in Moab filled the town and the surrounding countryside with Jeep enthusiasts. We were happy to miss out on that - It's supposed to be wild!
It actually worked out better for sightseeing because there were many things to visit that were a lot closer to Bluff than Moab. The scenery, even on the drive to the sights is full of spectacular rock formations. It's a good thing I was driving - I would have had many more pictures to process and present.
There are a ton of ruins attributed to the Ancestral Puebloans or the Ancients (formerly known as the Anasazi) in the Southwest. They date from about 700 to 1200 AD. Most of them (80%) have been looted, but some have been stabilized and left alone for archaeologists. It was fun to try and find them with binoculars on the canyon walls.
